Concussed explores concussions through research and my own personal experiences. I created an abstract sensorial experience to simulate the different stages of a concussion through sound and video art. The purpose is to evoke empathy and educate viewers on the many different feelings and sensations one undergoes during a concussion. These experiences are dizziness, isolation, light sensitivity, hearing sensitivity, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, lack of focus, multiple trips to the doctors and MRI testing. Concussions are unique in the sense that they are an invisible injury, and, through this body of work, I hope to break down the stigma towards downplaying or overlooking this type of injury.

Concussions have had a major impact in my life. I have received five concussions from several different sporting events. After my fifth concussion, doctors strongly advised me to refrain from participating in contact sports for good. At the time I was frustrated because I did not know the severity of repeated brain injuries. After long recoveries and completing a psychology course in high school, I then realized how truly damaging concussions can be and repeated concussions to an individual can cause long term and even permanent brain damage.

Collective Communication is a meditative soundscape that explores an abstract idea of what communication underground between the many fungal networks (mycelium) might sound like.

Song: Ribs, Lorde

23 trips around the sun. This video is dedicated to my brother, Nathan. He is my best friend and I find it hard to verbalize my love for him so for his 23rd birthday I made this video. Some of my favorite memories put together as one, rhythmically edited to the song Ribs by Lorde. I chose this song because of its nostalgic feel and the heartfelt lyrics addressing how scary growing up can be. My favorite lyric is "laugh until our ribs get tired" because no one has ever made me laugh harder than Nate.
